The Impressionist Corner
I was going to call this area "The Cafe Guebois", but that's too cliche. Everyone does that who talks about the Impressionists so I'll settle for "The Impressionist's Corner" for now. (For those of you who don't know what the "Cafe Guebois" is, read on!
For some reason, I'm drawn to this group of artists. There is always that big debate that they were the beginning of the end in "real" art. That they couldn't paint, they were rebels, they were drunkards, outcasts, etc., etc., etc. Who cares? To me, they seemed like a lively group of artists to hang out with and I think that is what I'm drawn to.
Don't get me wrong, I still love Rembrandt, Leonardo, Rubens, Titian, Michelangelo, and zillion others. However, the Impressionists were a just a group who, it seems for the first time in art history, to band together and share a common point of view.
I hope you find the following interesting and enjoyable.
Impressionist Timeline - A combined chronology from the many books on Impressionism I've amassed in my collection over the years.
Monet - By Himself - An article published in "Le Temps" on November 26, 1900 after an interview with Monet by Paris journalist Thiébault-Sisson. Some of it is fantasy, made up by Monet himself, part of it is true too.
